F/F romances about musicians, Kris loved Joyride
Plus, best LGBTQ films on Netflix and queer artists' influence on gospel music
Happy Tuesday, friends! Tara here with the latest in queer entertainment news!
🎧 Latest episode: Going to a Casino When You’re Broke
Kris shares her adventures in roadtripping and I announce that I’m all booked for my first GCLS convention in July. You know what that means? Kris is getting a huge hug when we finally meet in person!
This week, Kris recommends Joy Ride, last year’s raunchy, sex-positive comedy about four Asian American friends reconnecting while travelling across China. She especially loved the relationships in this one.
I recommend Limelight by Gun Brooke, a sapphic romance set in a competitive singing reality TV show, with a contestant and one of the show’s mentors falling for each other. If you like happy-for-now romances and prefer stories without a third-act breakup, this one is for you.
While we’re at it
Not a reality show setting, but if you’re interested in another workplace romance about a singer, then check out Georgia Beers’s Fear of Falling. It pairs a famous singer who wants to have more autonomy with her new manager, who has to balance supporting the artist with protecting the recording studio. And, no third-act breakup in this one either!
