Reality show romances, support Nikki Little
Plus, sapphic film/TV resources, 2 Amy Winehouse documentaries
Happy Tuesday, everyone! Tara here, with your latest roundup of queer entertainment news.
🎧 Latest episode: I’m Greedy
Kris is back with a report from Women’s Week. Also, I’ve apparently been lying about my height (I have not, I’m pretty sure).
This week, Kris officially recommends two documentaries about Amy Winehouse: Back to Black (2020) and Reclaiming Amy (2021). As she says, sometimes the truth about a situation can be found when you look at multiple accounts.
I officially recommend a lovely, low-angst sapphic romance, An Acquired Taste by Cheri Ritz. It features former acting rivals who fall in love as they compete on reality TV for the title of Celebrity Cook Off Champion.
While we’re at it
If you want another low-angst, sapphic romance set in the reality TV foodie world, check out Sweetest Thing by Natasha West. It’s set in a competitive reality baking show, so have some snacks ready when you read it, because you will need them!
❤️ Support Nikki Little's fight for life
If you’ve been part of the lesfic community for a while, you’ve likely at least heard of Nikki Little. As Melissa Brayden says, Nikki “joined the Sapphic Writing community over a decade ago as a host over at Cocktail Hour and a reviewer at The Lesbian Fiction Review. She then went on to serve a term on the board of the Golden Crown Literary Society. She’s moderated panels and been a panelist herself both at in person conferences and online, bringing her wit, charm, and intelligence to the organization.”
Now, Nikki and her wife Kate need our help, after a routine procedure led to an infection that put Nikki in septic shock. After 16 days on a ventilator in the ICU, she’s finally breathing, but this will be a difficult, expensive road of recovery.
I’m wrapping this section with a message from Kris, who knows Nikki: “Nikki is well loved, Nikki drove several of us to the Truro winery during Women’s Week last month. I’ve known her for years. She’s sweet, hilarious, and knitted me the cutest Yoda in record time. I was shocked to find out this happened to her. She’s our friend, our colleague, and needs our help. Please donate if you can. She has a massive battle ahead of her. I still can’t wrap my head around what happened. Please, please help.”
🎥 So many WLW films and TV shows!
If you’re looking for more sapphic films and TV shows to watch, you should know about Aria Velz. She’s on a mission to make it easier to find them, with a wealth of resources available on her linktr.ee. Watch her explain her projects:
